Because it will lead to modify the basic gravity concept and scientists on prestigious science institution will not support it. If there are no support, there will be no funds to investigate it.

Any modification of a long-held theory is WONDERFUL news for scientists. Any time something "goes wrong" with an experiment and people get unexpected results every good scientists starts hoping for a Nobel Prize.
There is tons of funding for things like that.
